Use Twitter To Make Money for Yourself/Business

MySpace came along, and Facebook, and there are plenty of other social networking sites in between, with more to come, but right now there’s Twitter. Twitter is like Facebook on speed. It’s very basic, it’s very simple, and lately you’ve probably been hearing about it everywhere. The science behind Twitter is that you log on and answer the question, “What are you doing?” That’s pretty much all there is to it. You give a short little bit about what you’re up to and you can add a picture. It’s been around for awhile now, but lately it’s been all over the media. It’s picked up steam, for some reason.

People are generally nosey and they want to know what’s going on. Twitter was probably originally created to be used as a personal tool and a workplace tool where it tells friends and coworkers what you’re up to, so they know. If you’re familiar with Facebook, then think of the feature here where you enter text after your name and strip away everything else. That’s basically what Twitter is. Now that you know what it is, did you know that you can use it to make money? Well, you may not have thought of it, but now that the thought is in your head, your gears are probably turning.

Twitter has gathered over three million users and the list of users goes from the individual to the largest of companies. It allows people to track the status of whoever they are following. Twitter is pretty versatile because you can receive the updates via the website, through text messages, email, RSS feeds, and a lot of other applications and social media networks. As it gains more users, Twitter will gain more applications and channels through which it can be used.

When you think about what Twitter is, and what exactly it does, you’ll probably ask yourself, “Why?” Well, you might scoff at it and have your opinions about it being a little ridiculous. That’s fine. If you’re scoffing at it on a personal level then that’s totally fine and understandable and it’s hard to blame you. Now, if you’re a business owner, of you’ve got a product, or service, or something that makes you money then you might want to put your personal opinions aside and get involved. This is just another way to hit potential customers and stay connected with your audience and customers. This is also a great way for you to network with like-minded people doing like-minded things. If you’ve got a niche product or service then it’s great to connect with others in your niche.

Twitter is putting together a small revolution and offering up some new channels to marketing yourself. It’s considered a form of micro-blogging and is a very quick way to express things, thoughts, ideas, promotions to people who are interested. Let’s face it, who has time to read these days? I’m being sarcastic, but really, when it comes to things like marketing and selling, people really don’t want to read a ton of content. That’s just how it is sometimes. And if somebody is on Twitter and they’re following you, then they’re already saying, “I don’t want to spend a lot of time here.” So, look at it that way. You have to be short and to the point, so take advantage and stay on top of things.

Use Twitter to drive traffic to your site. Express yourself through twitter and get people to your website. They might not go check it out instantly, but getting into the ether of things is going to be nothing but positive.

Use Twitter responsibly. Give your followers information that matters and the more often you can do it, the better. But if you start sending out mundane things then people will stop paying attention. Offer promos, be funny, be entertaining, give something useful or interesting. Be clever. Be smart. Keep in mind that what you say is going to stick around and lots of people are going to see it. Word spreads fast these days, so just be mindful of what you’re saying. Be a professional.

How much does Twitter cost to use? Well, it’s free, and that’s why you should take advantage of it. That’s why you should take full advantage of all these social networking sites and applications. Why wouldn’t you? Think of how much a magazine ad costs or even a newspaper ad. It doesn’t matter how much they cost, it’s the fact that they cost anything. Twitter is free, so if you’re trying to sell something, use it!

Twitter is going to help you build your site, build networks, build links, and build your customer base. It can’t be stressed enough to you that you need to be relevant and important with everything you do in your online marketing efforts. This is extremely important with Twitter because it is so lightning fast. For the short amount of time that it’s going to take somebody to ready your Tweets, it’s going to be even shorter that, after reading something mundane and useless, that they decide to never bother reading what you have to say again. Connect and follow people and businesses. You never know what kind of partnership might arise by somebody stumbling upon you or reading one of your promo Tweets. Don’t count anything out and it’s not going to hut to use a tool that is totally free and doesn’t take up much of your time.

While it might be okay for a person to say something like, “Going to dinner at 8pm,” or something like that, for their friends and family to see. That’s not going to work for you. Nobody is going to care about things like that. So, just be smart, be concise and be clear. Twitter is a pretty simple tool and it’s still fairly new. You can probably come up with some really creative, profitable ways of using Twitter that haven’t been mentioned. It’s a simple application with a lot of potential to drive up your sales and awareness of your brand or product.
