What You Need to Keep in Mind in Social Networking -
You’ve decided to venture into business online. Maybe you’re doing some affiliate marketing, you’ve got a business or service that you’re going to solely market online, or you’re you’ve already got a business in the real world and you’re looking to create a web presence. It’s a little bit different then putting together a direct mail campaign or slapping your face up on a billboard. It’s not completely different, but it is different. There are things you need to do, and things you need to avoid doing.
It is an exciting prospect to start up a business online, kind of like starting any business. It’s in your best interest to take that adrenaline and motivation and put it to work. Take all that positive energy you have and let it rain on your audience. Always be positive. If you start bad mouthing competitors then you’re instantly going to turn people off and they’re not going to see you in a positive light. You’re going to set the tone for downfall by picking fights and being an aggressor. Let the customer make the decisions while you just present to them your products and the information about them.
You need to stay on top of things. This is your business so don’t let it stagnate online like pond water. Those people that first visit your site and decide to come back, are going to notice that nothing has changed. That’s going to make you look bad and like you’re not much of a leader in your industry. It gives the sense that you’re not very successful, so even if you’re not successful at least present an image online that you are. This is common practice out in the real world, but the difference in the real world is that presenting an image of success is expensive if you’re not making money to support the image. On the internet, it’s not so bad. It’s really pretty simple, just update your content and put some new images up. There are all kinds of things you can do, just make sure you keep it fresh.
Wherever you’re social networking page is there are millions of potential friends. You don’t need to add anybody and everybody you get the chance to. You might want to do that, but really, why bother? You need to have friends on your profile, but you don’t need to have everybody. It gives off an unprofessional vibe and people add people for all kinds of reasons. It’s okay to pick and choose. If somebody is genuinely interested in your product or service or the information on your site, then of course, add them.
Along the same lines, there are a lot of groups you can be a part of. You should be a part of any group that is relevant to what you do and you should be an active member. Make yourself known but be professional about it and offer up content that is unique and informative. Now you’re in a group. You don’t want to turn off an entire group of relevant people or potential customers.
Be a professional and display a sense of things that you are a leader in the industry and that you know what you’re doing. Do this without being pompous or a prick. Take everyone seriously and with a genuine consideration for their opinions.
