Why Good Keyword Research Is Essential

Getting Noticed by the Big Search Engines -

You’ve got yourself a nice looking webpage and everything has come together well. You’ve got a nice product or service to market and you’re ready to start establishing a customer base and attack your audience. There’s a problem though. You feel like your website is lost in the abyss and is nowhere to be found. You feel like if people could just get to you, then it’d all be golden and you’d be on your way to a steady revenue stream. So, what do you have to do? How do you get your site to show up in the search rankings so people can actually see that you exist? You’ve got to find keywords and keyword phrases that people search for, but at the same time, they need to be keywords and keyword phrases that other people aren’t fighting with you over.

There are some tools out there to help you figure out what keywords are getting searched. Some of these tools cost money, and some do not. Google has a tool that works pretty well but takes a little time compared to something you might pay for. Whatever you use when you’re trying to analyze the numbers and determine what words or phrases you’re going to go after, it’s important to keep in mind the competition aspect of this.

Competing might make things more entertaining, and it might be within us as humans to be naturally competitive, but in this case you want to avoid the competition. To avoid the competition you’re going to have to avoid those broad keywords that are out there. The words that seem really obvious are the words you don’t want to bother with. You don’t want to devote your websites and content to these words because thousands of other people are vying for rankings under those terms. There are just too many competitors to make it worth your while.

The idea is to find what’s commonly known as a niche, or even a micro niche. This is where you’re going to make you’re money because you’re going to be marketing to a very targeted audience and, if you do your research, with little competition. The difference in the keywords and keyword phrases may only be one little word. That one word could narrow your audience from over ten million to under a couple hundred thousand, while still keeping you in the market for the same products as the heavier hitting searches.

When you find your keywords after using Google or whatever tool you’ve paid for then it’s time to get started. A good set of keywords is going to return fifty to a hundred and fifty thousands sites. If you’re newer to this, then stick with the lower numbers of sites. But once you get something in mind and you’ve got your set of words, then it’s time to start creating content wherever you can; blogs, video sites, websites, etc. In this content is where you utilize these keywords and phrases. Depending on how quick you are and how successful you are at creating these pages, you’re going to increase your rank as you link your website to the content in all of your other pages. It takes time, but this is the key to getting your products seen in the major search engines.

  2. Very interesting post, but it would be nice to see some links to these free and not free tools to find out what keywords are being searched. And just to clarify, when you say create content wherever you can, do you mean for example, post comments or guest posts on other people’s blogs, where you include a link to your site (and you use the keywords? Is the main purpose to spread content that both has your keywords and has links to your site?

Hey Ed – the tool I was referring to is Google’s Keyword tool. It’s the first result in Google and is priceless. It provides a lot of insight. You have the right idea about producing content everywhere, but I’d also suggest doing things like article marketing which you can learn about on this site with a search.

  5. An article marketing campaiign it’s one of the best and most targeted methods to get consumers , but if your article marketing strategy consists in merely submitting an article or two every week, your results will be probably really poor, that’s why you unquestionably must invest some money in automation softwares. Article submitter and spinner tools are the greatest ones you can use that are going to massively help you in your article marketing campaigns.

  6. I do not endorse applications very often but this recent service is excellent. It’s a key phrase tool having a database of millions of keywords showing the adwords traffic count per month together with the google competition count as well as other numbers.

At a click of a button you’ll find phrases with traffic but no competition and I have used it already to get web pages and websites to the top of the search engines, even without backlinks.
